Who we are, Where we are
and What we offer
Introduction ...
We are an architectural firm located in Northern Virginia just outside Washington,
DC (go to: "How to Contact us" for detailed information) composed of residential and garden (landscape)
architects who custom design "sensible homes" enveloped by "livable gardens".
Our Objective ...
Inspired by the beauty and the charm of many of the
neighborhoods and homes found primarily in older urban and suburban areas and townships throughout the US (in the Washington, DC
Metro area, Alexandria, Annapolis, Arlington, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, DC itself, and McLean come readily to mind), and totally
"turned off" by the blandness, the banality, and the "tastelessness" of today's "Residential
Developments" composed of row upon endless row of cookie-cutter houses that all look like they came off the same "Design
Committee" drafting board, are neither out and out ugly nor (heavens forbid) breathtakingly beautiful, just
"blah", our objective is;
● to offer the rapidly growing segment of disenchanted American home buyers
estimated to have totaled ±9% of the market in November 1999, 24% in
October 2002, 36% in April 2005, and nearly 50% in September 2006, a viable
alternative to today's "Mass-Production-Houses" that, unlike true
"Homes", are
cold and sterile on the in– as well as on the outside and that attempt to make up
for what they lack in beauty, grace, charm, livability, and basic
quality
simply by
being
huge
and
imposing
;
●
to play a pivotal role in, and make an important contribution to, the rapidly
expanding 21st Century "Renaissance" (rebirth) in Home Design and
Community Development.
What we offer ...
In general
– the custom design and creation of
"GardenHome
tm" properties which consist of a home and an enveloping garden, both of
which have been expressly designed such that, together, they form an inseparable whole the overall beauty and utility of which is
far greater than the sum of its parts.
In particular
–
the design and creation of "sensibly sized" and proportioned, well
laid-out and planned, highly livable homes that ...
● can range in size from about 2,500sf on a 1/4 acre, or smaller, urban lot,
to -say-
4,000+sf on a 1/2 acre, or larger, suburban-rural lot;
● thoroughly satisfy 21st Century needs and combine modern taste
and style with
a rather uncommon level of design integrity and quality of construction;
● are carefully "tailored" to express and satisfy the needs, tastes,
and
personalities of their owners;
● can come in any architectural style ranging from "Arts and Crafts"
to Colonial
(Dutch or New England), Contemporary, Federalist, "Shingles Style", and
Victorian;
● can offer beautiful, warm, and cozy interiors featuring wood, stone, plaster,
and
glass to admit light and exterior views;
● can feature partially glass roofed and plant-friendly "
GardenRoomssm" (interior
orangeries) designed for living, dining, and entertaining, as well as
RoofGardens
and DeckGardens;
● are enveloped by wonderful gardens that offer one, or more,
highly useful and
livable "outdoor-rooms-without-ceilings",
instead of by high maintenance,
bland and useless, cookie-cutter "landscaping";
● are "Environmentally Friendly" and "Energy Efficient"
(extremely well Insulated
and "
GeoThermally Heated & Cooled
" and that;
● are designed to support the physical needs of their owners such that,
should
they ever become disabled in any way, they will have "
a Home for Life
".
Why?
● Because we firmly believe that the time has finally come to "humanize" the
home
(whatever its size and style) and "democratize" the garden so as to give folks of
quiet means and discriminating taste a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g overdue opportunity to
own an overall property the beauty, charm, and combined livability of which is
vastly superior to, yet inherently no more expensive than, anything being offered
by the "Mass-Production Housing Industry" these days.
● Because we firmly believe that after 4+ decades, the time has come for a true
"paradigm shift" in home, garden, and community design!
A tall order?
Yes, but one which we are delighted to accept and more than
able to fulfill!
